Learning Beyond the Classroom: Primary Students Celebrate UN Day at Embassies

In a celebration of the global United Nations Day, primary students from Sampoerna Academy visited various embassies on the 31st of October, 2025, where representatives introduced them to various cultures and to the United Nations' role in promoting peace. The students experienced firsthand what it means to be part of a global community. Through these trips, our elementary students developed a deeper understanding of the ways of life and cultural practices of different countries.

Grade 3 students learned various aspects of Filipino culture at the Philippine Embassy. By designing a paper bird craft using origami and colour-pencil artwork, the students were able to express their creativity while exploring meaningful cultural knowledge. They also tasted a variety of local cuisine, which Sultan, Keiza, and Cinaya of 3B said was the most appealing part of the trip.

Meanwhile, Grade 4 students visited the UK Embassy, gaining a deeper appreciation of the country’s unique cultural identity. They explored the UK’s traditions, historical milestones, and notable figures, broadening their knowledge in an engaging, interactive way. The day ended with a delicious taste of classic British cuisine, including fish and chips and warm, buttery scones served with cream and strawberry jam. The students also had the opportunity to visit the Vice-Presidential Office in Jakarta to learn more about Indonesia. As a special treat, a chocolate fountain added a touch of excitement, and both Emma and Jordan from 4B said the chocolate was so irresistible they could have eaten it all day.

Grade 5 discovered various traditions in Kazakhstan, including cultural attire, historic mosques, and traditional dishes. Liquica of 5C shared that she learned a lot about how people live in Kazakhstan.

Grade 6 students visited the Georgian Embassy, where they watched a video highlighting Georgia’s rich history and cultural traditions. They also listened to the national anthem, immersing themselves in the country’s heritage. To complete the experience, they enjoyed freshly baked Georgian cheese bread, straight from the hot oven, making the visit even more memorable. In the words of Brianna from Grade 6B, “My favorite part was actually…we had an activity where we had to make Georgian cheese bread, and I really liked making it because it was really fun and amazing!”, foregrounding the power of sharing traditions from across the globe.

Overall, the embassy visits were a meaningful and memorable journey that allowed our students to learn, explore, and grow.
